The best domain registrar is the one still charging you a fair price in year five, not the one with the loudest year-one special. Full disclosure upfront: we’re a registrar, so we have a horse in this race. That’s exactly why this comparison sticks to published prices and checkable facts, and gives you the scorecard to run on anyone, including us.
The four things that separate registrars
- Renewal price. The price you’ll pay every year, forever. It matters far more than the registration special.
- Transparency. Is the renewal price printed next to the registration price, or do you find out at renewal time?
- Support. When your email breaks at month-end, do you get a human in SA business hours, or a ticket queue in another timezone?
- Freedom to leave. A registrar confident in its pricing makes transfers out easy. Lock-in is a warning sign.

An honest read of the market
The established full-service players, Domains.co.za, Afrihost, xneelo and friends, are genuinely good companies with big infrastructure and long track records. If you want VPS hosting, fibre and a domain from one giant account, they make sense, and you pay accordingly.
The first-year specials, R49 and R50 offers, are real prices, honestly disclosed. Just do the five-year maths above before deciding they’re the cheap option.
Us? Our position is one sentence: R99 flat, renewal identical, no lock-in, and we answer on WhatsApp. We built our whole model on the belief that the renewal jump is the industry’s worst habit.

Moving a domain is easier than it sounds, it’s a five-day process you start with one code from your current registrar.
