Three weeks into running this blog and our Facebook page, and the response from South African business owners has been genuinely moving. The questions in the comments. The DMs from people who’ve been sitting on the fence for months and finally took the step. The stories from business owners who got online and can’t believe it took them so long. This post is a reflection on why we built Cheap Domains for Sale, and why community is at the centre of everything we do.
More Than a Domain Registrar
We registered Cheap Domains for Sale as a business because we saw a gap: South African small businesses needed affordable, straightforward domain registration and WordPress hosting. But when we actually started talking to business owners, we realised the gap was bigger than we’d thought.
It wasn’t just about affordable pricing. It was about confidence. It was about not feeling stupid when you don’t know the difference between a domain and hosting. It was about having someone to call when something goes wrong who answers in South African hours and speaks plain English (or Zulu, or Afrikaans).
So we became more than a domain registrar. We became a support system.
Why South African Businesses Specifically?
South Africa is a country of extraordinary entrepreneurial energy. Walk through any township market, any suburb’s main street, any small town’s industrial area, and you find people running businesses with resourcefulness, skill, and determination that would impress anyone.
But many of those businesses are invisible online. And in 2026, being invisible online means missing out on an entire channel of growth that their international counterparts have been using for two decades.
We believe South African small businesses deserve the same digital tools that businesses in New York, London, and Sydney take for granted. And we believe they can have them, at South African prices, with South African support.
What This Community Means to Us
When a first-time business owner comments on our Facebook post saying ‘I just registered my first .co.za, thank you for making it feel possible’, that’s why we do this.
When a tailor in Durban tells us her website paid for itself in the first month, that’s the impact we’re aiming for.
When a graphic designer from Johannesburg lands his first international client through a website we helped him set up, that’s what success looks like to us.
